On January 1, 2024 a new reporting requirement under the Corporate Transparency Act (“CTA”) went into effect.
The CTA requires businesses to file a Beneficial Ownership Information (“BOI”) Report with the U.S. Department of the Treasury, in an effort to crack down on money laundering. Every corporation, LLC, or other entity formed with the Secretary of State (or similar office under the law of whatever state you’re in) has to file a BOI Report, and the deadline for doing so is specific to when the entity was formed.
